Sonjara Welcomes Kate Rears Burgman

Sonjara, Inc. is pleased to welcome Kate Rears Burgman to the Sonjara family.

Kate comes to Sonjara with more than 11 years of experience working on website projects. As a technical project manager, her skills include everything from liaising with clients to providing input on usability and UI to troubleshooting HTML/CSS/PHP code. Additionally, she works with the rest of the Sonjara team to provide thorough testing and quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle and ensure documentation and user guides are helpful and accurate.

Before coming to Sonjara, Kate worked at the George Washington University, where she started out as associate director of online communications for the university's fundraising and alumni relations offices, creating and maintaining websites, managing online communications and providing general support for a staff of nearly 200 university employees as well as customer support for members of the university's online alumni network. After spending several years in this role, Kate accepted a position as senior web producer for GW's external relations office, where she managed web requests from across the university, serving and supporting more diverse clientele and complex projects.

Prior to GW, Kate held webmaster, online communications, and customer support positions at several D.C. area nonprofit organizations, including the Electronic Privacy Information Center, the National Genealogical Society, and the National Society of Professional Engineers, as well as Ropes and Gray law firm and the U.S. Government Printing Office.

Kate holds a B.A. in English language and literature from the College of William and Mary and expects to earn her M.S. in information systems technology from the George Washington University in December 2012. She has also enjoyed taking courses in library and information science at the Catholic University of America.

In her spare time, Kate is a mostly-volunteer amateur musician who plays several instruments, writes and performs original music with several local bands, and arranges music for chamber groups. She also provides volunteer website support for these groups and other arts organizations with which she is involved.
